What is a quality presentation technique?

Hi friends, few days ago I saw an interesting comment to an article of mine about "presentation techniques" published on the website Virtualcar.it. It was a question like: "could you explane what type of illustration technique is considered of high quality?" In that article I was explaining how to manage a car design presentation in a design school, what to say and what not to say, how to talk about your concept and sell it without overdoing it...Naturally after the compliments the reader was interested to understand better about the graphics and illustration aspects of a car design final presentation.

To try to answear to that question I will give you an example hoping to be clear. Lets imagine that we are in front of 2 presentations: the one on the right has a great concept, a real good idea...something that could really be interesting to have in a portfolio. The one on the left has a great concept, too. It is different from the other presentation, but a good idea worth to have in a portfolio.

Student work ( AFAD University Bratislava)

Now my question is: why the presentation on the right is the winner? Why am I interested by those drawings and not so much by those of the other student on the left? The answear is simple: because the quality presentation of his/her drawings is at a very high level and because of it I cannot be attracted by the other presentation! So what is important other than a very good oral managment of our presentation? The content, and by that I do not mean only the good concept but the representation of it: ideation sketches, color sketchs, renderings, illustrations, technical information, the benchmark, the editorial overall graphics, the choice of general colors, the richness of the all presentation making sure that quality is winning on quantity.

In this article I will not take your hand and drive it be like a professional designer at work, that would be too easy and I would not give you an helpful service. Here I am trying to make you think! Think how to find good works done by others and just start learning by looking at them. Study the technique and , most of all, try it several times. Listen carefully your teachers at school because they are professionals like me, follow them when they make demos in class and copy copy copy...After sometime you will start to develop your own personal technique with your palette, your way to organize your presentation not to be like all your collegues, you will learn how to manage also your quality illustration technique to prepare always great presentations and naturally a good final portfolio.

Good luck,
