How to draw a car tutorial by Michal Uhrin

Today, thanks to my friend Michal Uhrin, I will show you a real good tutorial to learn how to sketch and color a car. This tutorial is extremely well done by Michal who is finishing his Transportation Design Course at AFAD University of Art & Design in Bratislava SK. I had the pleasure to meet Michal the first time during a car design project sponsorized by the company I work for. I was managing the project and came across Michal who, at the time, was at his first year in school. When I saw his drawings I asked the school to give him permission to participate to the project. At the end of the experience Michal got an internship with us during which he learned a lot and today he is ready for a new one just before getting his final diploma in Transportation Design.

The demo is organized in 3 steps and each sequence of images I received by Michal has a perfect and clear explanation...so for me not much to write and I think this is another example of Michal's professionality.

Once again step 1 is about line work, perspective, ellipses well placed, few details and some body sections which will help us to understand better the volume of the car to apply later some colors to bring it to a quick rendering.

Step 2 is about main basic colors and tones to get important indications as body color, glass transparencies and some details like pillars and plastic components. The gray tones are used to give depth and also create transparent effect on glass area. With Step 3 Michal is adding the background shape to help the sketch to come out of the paper in a punchy way, he is also adding all sort of details to make it flashy, smooth, full of light and a good focal point.
